MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Milwaukee's south side early Tuesday morning, June 7th.

Police say the body of 53-year-old Daniel Cabrices was found outside a home around 5:45 a.m. with an apparent gunshot wound.

"MFD was first to arrive. They discovered an adult male, who appeared to be bleeding from the abdomen, and was an apparent shooting victim," Lt. Eric Donaldson with the Milwaukee Police Department said.

Cabrices was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kris Knapp

FOX6 News spoke with a close friend of Cabrices. She said she cannot believe the father and grandfather lost his life as a result of violence.

"Why?! Why did you kill him?! Why?! Why do you people kill people?! You animals!" Kris Knapp said. That was somebody`s father. Somebody`s grandfather! You animals make me sick!"

Knapp said she and Cabrices share a 19-year old son. A few months ago, Knapp said Cabrices came to stay with her while he and another woman finalized their divorce.

"At about midnight, I got up and accidentally woke him up and said 'I`m sorry,' and then I went back to  bed. At that time, he probably got up and walked out and got a soda or something," Knapp said.

Knapp said she believes Cabrices went to a nearby corner store.

"I tried and tried and tried to warn him of the area. It`s the area. You can`t be out here walking past dark. It`s just not safe," Knapp said.
