28-year-old man arrested after domestic disturbance, pursuit

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- Sheboygan police say a man was taken into custody following a domestic disturbance and police pursuit.

It happened on Monday, January 27th just after 4:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of New Jersey Ave.

Police say during the domestic disturbance at that address, the husband armed himself with a handgun and left the residence.

Officers observed a man operating his vehicle in the area, and attempted a traffic stop.

The pursuit went south on S. 14th Street to Business Drive, and then west on Washington Avenue and onto I-43 northbound.

During the pursuit, officers reported speeds of up to 50 miles-per-hour in the city and as fast as 90 miles-per-hour on I-43.

The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department picked up the pursuit near the I-43 and HWY-42 intersection.

After the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons, the suspect vehicle was located stopped along the interstate in Manitowoc County.  

The suspect was then observed by deputies running through farm fields.

The 28-year-old man was later taken into custody by the State Patrol on Hwy X and Lakeshore Road in Manitowoc County which is where the loaded firearm was also recovered. 

There were no injuries or damage reported from this incident.

After being transported to Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center for treatment regarding exposure to the cold weather conditions, he was charged with felony eluding, domestic disorderly conduct while armed, carrying a concealed weapon,  operating after suspension and taken to the detention center.
