23-year-old Racine man charged in beating of his dog and his mother

RACINE (WITI) -- 23-year-old Aarron Peterson of Racine has been charged in connection with the beating of his dog and his mother.

Peterson faces five charges, including:

Officials were dispatched to a home on Northwestern Avenue for an assault report, where they were met by Peterson's mother, who told officials she had been attacked by her son at their home on Erie Street in Racine.

Officials were able to observe injuries to Peterson's mother's face, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint says Peterson's mother told officials she was home with her husband and Aarron on October 21st when Aarron's dog reportedly had an accident on the floor in Aarron's room.

The complaint says Peterson's mother told officials she could hear her son beating the dog in response to the dog peeing on the floor -- and when she opened the bedroom door, she noticed Aarron punching the dog with closed fists multiple times.

The complaint says Peterson's mother tried to intervene, when Aarron began attacking her. Peterson's mother told officials Aarron threw her from the room and punched her in the face approximately six times before grabbing her by the hair and dragging her across the floor.

The complaint says Peterson's mother told officials she began to kick Aarron to stop him from hurting her, and eventually, her husband came to her aid.

The complaint says Aarron then told the family he was going for a walk to "cool off" -- and Aarron reportedly took the dog with him. The complaint indicates Aarron was observed arming himself with two butcher knives, and Peterson's mother told officials he warned that if anyone called police, he would stab himself with a knife.

The complaint says Peterson's mother told officials he has been violent with her before.

Officers responded to the home on Erie Street and according to the complaint, Aarron refused to leave the home. Officers surrounded the home, and just after 1:00 a.m. on October 22nd, Aarron left the home.

Officials did a sweep of the home, and according to the complaint, discovered drug paraphernalia in plain view on top of a dresser in Aarron's room.

The complaint indicates drug paraphernalia was discovered when a search warrant was executed.
