23-year-old man dies after being struck by van in Sheboygan County

SHEBOYGAN -- Sheboygan County authorities are investigating a fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian crash that happened early Sunday, July 3rd.

A 911 call came into the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center just after 4:30 a.m. advising that a vehicle struck a pedestrian on County Road P just north of County Road A, in the Town of Rhine. Sheboygan County Sheriff's Deputies, Orange Cross Ambulance and Glenbeulah First Responders were dispatched to the scene.

Officials say the preliminary investigation shows a van was southbound on County Road P when it struck a pedestrian. The van operator remained at the scene and called law enforcement.

The pedestrian, identified by officials as 23-year-old Shawn Kaufert of Sheboygan Falls, died on the scene.

Officials say at this point, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in this incident.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Team.
