16-year-old suspect accused in child abduction case

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a child abduction that took place Friday, March 7th at a gas station near 60th and Good Hope Road -- and the suspect in this case is just 16 years old.

The incident happened around 7:45 p.m.

According to police, a woman left her 14-month-old child in a running vehicle as she went inside the gas station. As the woman entered the store, a male suspect jumped in the car and drove away.

A witness to the crime began following the suspect. When the suspect realized he was being followed, he stopped the vehicle near 74th and Good Hope Rd., got out and took off running.

No one was injured during the incident. The mother and child were reunited shortly after the abduction.

A suspect was arrested soon after the car and child were located.

Authorities are working to determine whether the 16-year-old boy is responsible for other recent auto thefts in the area.

The case will be referred to the District Attorney's Office in the coming days.
