16-year-old from Watertown dies after crashing into bridge support on Hwy 26 near Welsh Road

WATERTOWN -- Officials with the Dodge County Sheriff's Office say a 16-year-old from Watertown, taken to the hospital via Flight for Life after a crash on Highway 26 near Welsh Road in Watertown that happened on Monday afternoon, June 20th has passed away.

The crash happened around 3:45 p.m.

Officials say a preliminary investigation has revealed a vehicle, driven by 16-year-old Gabrielle Spende of Watertown, was traveling south on Welsh Road, entering a curve in the roadway when it slid in a clockwise direction, and then struck a bridge pillar.

Spende suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown from the scene by Flight for Life to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee.

Officials said Wednesday, June 22nd Spende passed away as a result of her injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
