14-year-old killed in one of five Milwaukee shootings
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating several shooting incidents that occurred late Friday night, July 26th and early Saturday morning, July 27th. During one of the incidents, a 14-year-old boy was killed.
The first incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. According to police, a 21-year-old man sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound while walking near 35th and Greenfield by an unknown suspect.
Just before midnight a 14-year-old boy was killed after shots were fired into a crowd during a large fight in the 2900 block of N. 12th Street. Three others were also struck by gunfire. Police say a 17-year-old boy suffered a minor gunshot wound, and two others, a 15-year-old boy and a 22-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries but are expected to survive.
“This is crazy and I’m not fitting to live up over here in it because next it might be one of our kids," said a concerned resident.
At 1:20 a.m. a 23-year-old man was shot in an alley in the 4700 block of W. Burleigh. He sustained non-life threatening injuries.
At 2:35 a.m. a 29-year-old man was shot in his vehicle during an apparent robbery attempt in the 5400 block of W. Hampton. Officials say he sustained a serious injury but is expected to survive.
Around 3:55 a.m. squads responded to a report of a fight and several shots fired in the 2900 block of N. 57th Street. Darrell Gardner is recovering from the incident.
”The bullet grazed me in the head. I have staples, and I got shot in the leg. It went straight through," said Gardner.
The victim tells FOX6 he and another man had an argument. Police came to the house to diffuse the situation but when they left, the suspect apparently came back.
“Came back ten minutes later through the back door and said 'Milwaukee Police.’ I said 'let them in.' Instead of the police it was him and another guy. They came in and were shooting,” said Gardner.
No suspects have been taken into custody in this case.
