14-year-old boy shot multiple times late Saturday night
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The city of Milwaukee saw more violence on Saturday night, August 10th, as police were on the scene of two more shooting incidents -- bringing the total of shooting incidents to 26 -- seven of them fatalities. This, in just over a week. One of Saturday's shooting incidents involved a 14-year-old boy.
Police say a 14-year-old boy was shot multiple times in an incident that they believe was the result of an attempted drug transaction.
It happened in the 2900 block of N. 18th Street late Saturday night.
"The only thing we can do is pray for him and his family and hope this wakes him up because baby this could have been worse. You could not have walked away," Regina Webb said.
The boy was on Webb's mind and heart on Sunday morning. She attends church at the end of the block, near where the crime occurred.
Webb's concern grew after learning the incident happened just before midnight.
"These 14 year olds being shot out here, where are the parents? It's too many kids out here getting killed and if we parents come other we can stop a lot of it," Webb said.
Raymond Perine is part of the Neighborhood Watch. He's been living in the area for over 30 years, but says the violence problem may be much bigger than discipline and guidance.
"I don`t know if it has something to do with the gun laws? They may have to do some changes on that," Perine said.
Neighbors in the area hope this incident is a sobering reminder for young people in the city of Milwaukee.
"I hope it`s going to be a wake-up call for the younger people and say 'hey I want to live. I have a lot to live for.' Right now it seems they don`t have anything to live for. They just don`t care," Perine said.
The boy involved in Saturday night's shooting is being treated at the hospital, and is expected to be okay.
