"We live in fear:" Neighbors who live near scene of officer-involved shooting say violence has taken over
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The state Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into the shooting of an 18-year-old man by a 21-year veteran of the Milwaukee Police Department this past weekend. It happened on Saturday, February 21st near 10th and Concordia. Police say the man was pointing some kind of gun at the officer when that officer fired -- striking the man. He is expected to survive.
Around 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, the Milwaukee Fire Department was called out to the scene for a medical emergency.
Investigators say while they were treating a patient, they realized there was an on-going violent encounter happening and they called police.
When police arrived, they say they secured the safety of others inside the home.
"We're sick of it. We're tired of it. We have to take the area back. We have to take the community back. It's not a pleasant thing that we live in fear," Deacon Jones said.
The Faithful Mission Pentecostal Church is hosting a neighborhood block watch meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Everyone is welcome at the church -- located near 10th and Keefe.
