MAYVILLE (WITI) -- The City of Mayville Police Department are investigating an armed robbery involving a police impersonator.
The robbery occurred on Highway TW near Theiler Park on Friday, January 30th, at 11 a.m.
The suspect was driving a newer model navy blue Dodge Charger and activated red and blue lights on the dashboard to stop a 56-year-old Watertown man.
The suspect had a semi-automatic handgun in his hand as he approached the victim and demanded his wallet. After the victim surrendered his wallet, the suspect returned to his vehicle and fled the scene.
The police chief says if you're pulled over in Mayville, there are ways to make sure the officer is legitimate.
"If at any time they suspect that this person stopping them may not be an officer, they can certainly contact the police department or the sheriff's department, or dial 911, and find out if the person stopping them is actually a law enforcement officer," said Mayville Police Chief, Christopher MacNeil.
The suspect is described as a white male in his late 30's to early 40's, approximately 5'10", with short dark brown hair and he is clean shaven.
