Two shot, one fatally after apparent road rage incident; witness says shooting was "execution style"
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say one man was fatally shot and another was wounded early Sunday, February 8th. Police initially indicated the incident may have been prompted by road rage. But officials later indicated that was not the case. They say the incident was prompted by a previous dispute.
Police on Sunday were called to the scene near Fond du Lac and Silver Spring just after 1:30 a.m.
Officials say after losing control of his vehicle and driving into a ditch, a 25-year-old driver was approached by a single person who fired shots -- striking him and his 25-year-old passenger. Both of the victims are from Milwaukee.
The driver died at the scene. The passenger was taken to a hospital for treatment.
A witness tells FOX6 News the shooting was execution style.
"He didn`t even waver. It was kind of like an execution style. Walked up, pulled it out and started shooting," the witness, who didn't want to be identified, told FOX6 News.
The witness says an SUV veered off the road and another SUV, with a man and a woman inside stopped to help. Soon after, the witness says a man in a black hoodie and black pants approached on foot.
"Off of 84th Street, walked to the middle of Fond du Lac Avenue and just opened fire. Eight to ten shots. Shooting the driver and passenger," the witness said.
The witness says one of those who was shot ran to a nearby parking lot.
"The driver was laying in the snow bank and the young lady from the second SUV was trying to give him CPR -- telling him to think about his mother, father -- anything to encourage him to keep living," the witness said.
We're told Milwaukee police are looking for the suspect.
