SMASHED! Dozens of car windows broken in Bay View

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating approximately a dozen reports of broken out windows of cars parked in the Bay View neighborhood.

The incidents happened in the overnight hours Thursday, April 17th into Friday, April 18th, near the area of Oklahoma Ave. and Superior St. It is unclear what was used to break the windows, but officers believe it may have been a BB gun.

Chris Barden walked out to his car Friday morning and his window wasn't quite right.

"I thought it was frost at first and that I had to scrape it off, and then realized it wasn't, and you know, then I closed the door and it shattered on me," said Barden.

Friday morning is also when manager of Safe Auto Glass, Talib "Tom" Almaghrabi, first thought something strange was happening near Superior St.

"I’m talking to the customer and the second phone call came in like five minutes, 10 minute later, and 'oh I got my window busted I need it to be fixed.’ I said ‘what area?' ‘Well I’m on Superior.' I said ‘well I’m talking to somebody else over there, am I talking about the same car?’ She said ‘no it’s a different car,'" said Almaghrabi.

Almaghrabi says his team has already fixed five vehicles and is in the process of starting the sixth.

"A job like that, when you have to clean the broken glass out of the door and put in new glass, if we have it in stock, can take between an hour and an hour and a half," said Almaghrabi.

Time isn't the only factor when replacing a broken car window -- it can also cost about $200.

The incidents are still under investigation. Anyone with information related to this case should call Milwaukee police at 414-935-7262.
