RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- One of two daycare workers accused of watching a two-year-old boy get beaten up by other children and shooting video of the incident has been sentenced in the case against her.
Krystina Woods
25-year-old Krystina Woods is charged in two separate cases with misdemeanor theft of movable property and felony child abuse/failing to prevent bodily harm.
In court in Racine County on Thursday, March 5th, Woods was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of extended supervision. That sentence was stayed, and Woods was placed on probation for two years. She's been ordered to maintain absolute sobriety, maintain full-time employment, and have no contact with the victim and co-defendant in this case.
Woods has been ordered to serve one year of conditional jail time, and Huber release will be allowed for employment and education. She is to report to the Racine County Jail for the conditional time on Saturday, April 4th.
The other individual charged in this case is 24-year-old Jakitta Hollins. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 10th.
The case centers around video that surfaced on social media. It shows three small children assaulting a two-year-old back on April 12th, 2013. If you listen closely to the video clip, you can hear the teacher behind the camera laughing. Court documents say when it was all over, the two-year-old who was being beaten threw up.
The mother of the boy who was beaten by his playmates finally found out about the beating on April 25th when the daycare’s former director texted her a copy of the video. She says she watched in horror.
The criminal complaint says, “Hollins stated that she observed the fight for approximately 10-15 seconds and left the room to take care of another child. Hollins stated that she returned to the room and observed the beating was still occurring. Hollins stated that she eventually went over and broke up the fight.”
The complaint says Hollins “thought Woods would stop the fight.” But after further investigation, “Woods did not attempt to stop the fight or break up the fight, but stood and watched and videotaped the fight.”
The two-year-old boy who was beaten was taken to the doctor. Physically, he was okay. But emotionally, his mom said he was very scared.
The Department of Children and Family Services revoked the license of The Bundles of Blessings Kid Kare on May 2nd, 2013. A review of the facility’s records show it had 52 rule violations in two years.
