RACINE — A Racine County family whose dog was killed in a crash on I-94 on New Year's Eve has been reunited with a second dog that went missing after the accident.
The dogs were in a car driven by AlGene Caraulia's mother that was struck by a stolen vehicle on I-94 on Thursday, December 31st.
She was not significantly injured.
But one of the family's dogs, Zoom, was struck and killed by another vehicle after the accident. The other dog, named Violet, went missing.
Caraulia searched along the interstate for days and created a Facebook page to help find Violet.
The Journal Times says the family finally got the call they were hoping for. Violet was found on a porch about four miles from the crash site and was taken to a Mount Pleasant vet where a microchip led her back to her family.
The two right lanes of northbound I-94 at County Highway K were temporarily shut down because of this crash.
By early afternoon, the scene was cleared.
This incident began just before 11:00 a.m., when a deputy in northern Kenosha County spotted a vehicle that was reported stolen.
A traffic stop was attempted on Highway KR, but the suspect vehicle fled the scene.
The suspect vehicle ended up striking another vehicle and crashing in Racine County.
There were two occupants in the suspect vehicle — an adult and a juvenile. The juvenile was taken to Children’s Hospital as a precaution, and release to their parents.
The adult was taken to a hospital in Racine for an evaluation, and eventually released into the custody of the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.
