MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Police officers arrested a 17-year-old suspect within hours of an August 28th armed robbery on the Hank Aaron State Trail by using the victim's iCloud account and the "Find My iPhone" application.
According to police, a 13-year-old West Allis boy was riding his bicycle on the Hank Aaron State Trail (at about 72nd Street) with a friend at about 5 p.m. on August 28th when the suspect grabbed the boy's handlebars and demanded his bicycle.
The suspect then pulled out a knife and pushed the boy off the bike. As the boy laid on the ground, the suspect went though his pockets and took the boy's iPhone. The suspect then rode off on the boy's bicycle, with the iPhone.
Officers from District 3 worked with other officers to access the boy's iCloud account to use the "Find My iPhone" app. Using the app, the officers were able to trace the phone to an address in the 2600 block of N. 41st Street.
When the officers arrived, they found the victim's black Haro BMX-style bike on the front lawn of the residence. The officers gained consent to search the residence and found the suspect hiding in the basement with the stolen iPhone nearby. 17-year-old Kenyacies Phipps was arrested at 8 p.m., just three hours after the robbery happened.
Phipps has been charged with one count of Armed Robbery by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
