Latest: Zika virus infection confirmed in Dane County woman

MADISON -- Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) has received notification that Zika virus infection has been confirmed in a woman residing in Dane County. That is according to a post on the City of Madison website.

The patient, who is not pregnant, acquired the infection while traveling in Colombia where Zika infected mosquitoes are present.

The first confirmed case of Zika virus was just confirmed on May 18th. According to a news release from DHS, the individual who tested positive in that first case is a woman who recently traveled to Honduras, where Zika-infected mosquitoes are present.

There have been no locally-acquired cases of Zika virus infection in Wisconsin or in the continental United States, DHS officials said.
