Case of the missing urn is returned to family
GLENDALE (WITI) -- Mystery solved! The case of the unidentified urn is now with its rightful owner. FOX6 News first told you about the mystery urn on Monday, March 2nd, when a local man found it in a storage shed.
This is a meeting that never would have happened if not for what, or who was inside an urn. It's been 61 years since Lolita Bevenue has seen this urn.
"This urn was placed on the top shelf of the linen closet. I would climb up those shelves and I would get the urn and I'd bring it down and I'd say to my friends, 'listen, my sister is here,'" said Bevenue.
That's right, inside that urn are the remains of Lolita's sister, Yvette.
Yvette passed away when she was 9 months old from what was then called crib death. For decades Lolita wondered where the urn was.
It was Corey Pachefsky who found it while cleaning out his grandmother's storage unit he found an old picnic basket with a black urn and a card inside.
Corey spent weeks looking for its rightful owner, eventually he contacted FOX6 News asking for help. With some online digging, Yvette's sister was found, and was able to hand deliver the urn to her.
"I'm just happy that it didn't end up in a garbage can or thrown out, you know, somebody tries to resell the urn or something. I'm just glad I got it back to next of kin," said Pachefsky.
FOX6 News Anchor Brad Hicks did some searching online and found Lolita's name and got her in touch with Corey for today's handover of the urn.
Lolita says she isn't sure what they'll do next with the urn, but says for now, it will be properly displayed in her home.
