KIMBERLY — A Kimberly, Wisconsin boy was back in the lemonade business a day after he was shot in the face with a BB gun.
Nine-year-old Jayden Grant was selling lemonade with friends on Monday, July 25th when someone drove past and shot him with a BB gun.
Jayden's dad, Eric Grant, said he heard the screams and knew something was wrong.
"I heard the screams and then I knew it wasn't a good scream. You know your child's scream. I came running and saw blood all over," Eric Grant told WLUK.
"I got shot," Jayden Grant told WLUK.
Eric Grant said someone driving by the lemonade stand shot the BB gun at his son -- hitting Jayden in the face.
"I realized it was a BB in there. Just a pretty scary situation," Eric Grant said.
Jayden was rushed to the hospital. His mother, Leah Grant, says the BB was embedded and had to be removed.
Eric Grant said the incident put the whole family on edge.
"An adrenaline I've never felt before," Eric Grant said.
Despite the scare, Jayden and his friends were back at the stand Tuesday, and business was good.
"To build confidence in this guy -- to bring him back and show him how random this was," Eric Grant said, explaining why they brought the lemonade stand back.
"I feel pretty good now," Jayden said.
The Fox Valley Metro police officers who met Jayden in the hospital came to show their support and get a refreshing cup of lemonade Tuesday.
"We want him to feel comfortable and safe in this community. So he doesn't have a fear of doing a lemonade stand at any point," explained Officer Michael Lambie.
Jayden's mom, Leah, told us they did this for the benefit of Jayden's business partners too.
"We want them to feel safe too. This is the neighborhood we grew up in and we want it to feel safe to them just as it was to us as young kids," she said.
Jayden may only be nine years old, but his advice is wise beyond his years.
"Just don't be scared after something happens. Don't live scared," he advised.
18-year-old Evgeniy Tetzlaff of Freedom was charged in Outagamie County Circuity Court with one count of injury by negligent use of a weapon in connection with this shooting.
