"He threw his life away:" We`re learning more about 32-year-old suspect connected to Amber Alert

MILWAUKEE -- We are learning more about the 32-year-old Milwaukee man taken into custody on Sunday night, November 15th in Jefferson County -- accused of stealing a red Volvo SUV in Milwaukee, that prompted an Amber Alert for a three-year-old girl who was inside that vehicle. FOX6 News spoke with a woman who says she's a friend of the 32-year-old man. She believes his actions are motivated by mental illness.

"He`s a great guy, but...he threw his life away," the woman said.

Milwaukee police say the 32-year-old man is a suspect in a domestic violence stabbing involving a member of his family. That incident happened on Sunday morning, around 5:30 a.m., near 55th and Villard.

"I know he attacked his dad, but I don`t know if his dad was facing him, or whatever," the woman who's a friend of the man said. She asked that her identity be protected. "He was crying out for help, and he felt as if no one cared, no one loved him."

We're told the man who was stabbed is the suspect's father. We're told he's doing better, and it is believed he will survive -- after suffering a total of eight stab wounds, caused by a screwdriver.

The red Volvo SUV was stolen near 45th and Chambers around 6:50 p.m.

Police say three-year-old Aubri Degeffered was inside.

An Amber Alert was issued for Degeffered, and police were going door-to-door Sunday night near 45th and Chambers.

We then learned the red Volvo SUV had been involved in an attempted strong armed robbery in Brookfield -- near Bluemound and Janacek Road. This occurred about 50 minutes after the SUV was stolen in Milwaukee.

It happened around 7:30 p.m., and police said the suspect in that attempted strong armed robbery was believed to be the same suspect involved in the theft of the SUV and the ensuring Amber Alert.

The 32-year-old man was arrested by Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies at Pyramid Liquor and Motel on County Road V in Lake Mills, Wisconsin around 10:15 p.m.

It was soon learned that Aubri Degeffered had been found safe, and the red Volvo SUV was recovered.

FOX6 News was there as the Volvo SUV arrived at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office late Sunday night.

"I was very baffled, very shocked, very disturbed," the woman who knows the 32-year-old suspect said.

She says she understands the man is accused of being involved in a robbery in northeastern Illinois on Friday. She says he may have attempted suicide by intentionally crashing a car there, and he's accused of attacking a responding EMT.

"Allegedly, he punched a paramedic in the face, and from there, he just spiraled," the woman said.

The woman says while she understands the man needs to be punished -- she is also hopeful he'll get the help he needs.

Milwaukee police say the investigation into this case is ongoing -- and the case will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office in the coming days.
