High-speed chase caught on dashcam
Much of the high-speed chase was captured by a dashcam in a Sheboygan County Sheriff's Deputy's dashcam.
On Sunday night, January 6th, Sheboygan County was told by Ozaukee County to be on the lookout along I-43 for a blue Mustang that was weaving in and out of traffic. The deputy spotted the car just south of County Highway V and began a pursuit.
Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe DeCecco says the car in this case was stolen. Behind the wheel was 18-year-old Ray Potter of Michigan.
"This is an example of what happens when you look at the Duke's of Hazard like a documentary and not as a TV show," said DeCecco.
After several blown tires, Potter finally stopped in Brown County.
According to the criminal complaint, in the back of the squad car, Potter asked the deputy "if it was the longest chase he had been in" and "how many counties he had gone through." Potter also explained that when he saw the squad as a "Crown Vic and not a Charger, he decided to see if he could outrun it."
Potter also had a complaint about the music selection in the car he had stolen, because "it was all rap music and he likes country music."
DeCecco says Potter's comments illustrate a cavalier attitude.
"This isn't a TV show, this isn't a closed track somewhere, this extremely dangerous behavior. And unfortunately he's going to find out what the consequences of that are, as far as we're concerned," said DeCecco.
