13-year-old boy struck by vehicle while riding his bike in Grafton; driver arrested for OWI

GRAFTON (WITI) -- Grafton Fire Department officials tell FOX6 News a 13-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle while riding a bike at the intersection of 8th Avenue and North Street in Grafton on Tuesday afternoon, March 17th. Police say the driver of that vehicle had consumed alcoholic beverages prior to the incident.

It happened just before 3:00 p.m.

The boy suffered lacerations that caused bleeding, but his injuries appeared to be minor, officials say.

The child was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, field sobriety tests were initiated, and the driver of the vehicle that struck the child was arrested for OWI, causing injury.

A review of the driver's records revealed two prior OWI convictions.

Police say a juvenile was in the vehicle at the time of Tuesday's incident.

The driver was taken to a hospital for a blood draw. He was then taken to the Grafton Police Department for booking. He'll then be transported to the Ozaukee County Jail.
