12-year-old struck by car in South Milwaukee, driver now in custody

SOUTH MILWAUKEE -- South Milwaukee police say a 12-year-old was struck by a car on S. Chicago Ave. (Highway 32) near Rawson Ave. on Tuesday afternoon, September 22nd.

The incident happened just after 3:30 p.m. Officials tell FOX6 News the driver that struck the child initially stopped to check on the child, but then took off. Through witness information, officers were provided a license plate and were able to locate the suspect vehicle at an address in Cudahy. That driver was taken into custody.

Officials say their preliminary investigation indicates the 12-year-old child was crossing against the signal. The child was taken to St. Luke's South Shore with minor injuries.
