MILWAUKEE -- Adam Voisin has never been able to experience the thrill of athletic competition, but thanks to loving parents, and a man who has been inspired by Adam's courage and positive attitude, he'll be in the race of his life on Saturday, June 9th.
On Saturday, Lisa Voisin and her husband are running a 10K. Impressive - but even more impressive when you consider that their son, Adam, is coming along for the ride!
20-year-old Adam Voisin has cerebral palsy and the upcoming 10K race marks a milestone in his life.
"I am absolutely pumped! This is my very first time ever competing in a run - in a 10K like this. When I was little, I never thought this day would ever come. I didn't even think I would be capable of doing races like this," Adam said.
"I have always seen Adam at the finish line, but he's always on the other side, waiting for me in all my races. He's always waiting for me. Now, he can go over the finish line, and that's what I am excited about - to see him go over the finish line on his own," Adam's mom, Lisa said.
The Voisin's met Christian Jensen at a marathon in Green Bay. Christian works as a physical therapist at Bellin Hospital. A client of his named Mary - who has Muscular Dystrophy, motivated Christian to help people with disabilities experience endurance events.
"Mary, just like Adam, was a hero to me. She never says 'why me?'" Christian said.
"If I approach someone with my smile and my good attitude, it makes me feel that I can talk to this person, and I am making them feel a lot more comfortable around me," Adam said.
"You hope that somehow, a little of him rubs off on people. He's such a happy guy, and everybody that comes in contact with him says the same thing," Adam's dad
"Even though I am going to be pushed, I am still going to be able to experience the actual feeling of an actual runner during a race, and that, I think, makes me feel special," Adam said.
Saturday, June 9th in Green Bay, it will be Adam Voisin's time to shine in the spotlight. Adam has been special from day one.
