WI Red Cross volunteers assisting CO flood victims

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Two volunteers from the Milwaukee area American Red Cross organization took off from General Mitchell International Airport Saturday afternoon, September 14th, on their way to Colorado to provide assistance to flood victims.

Forecasters are calling for even more rain in Colorado as 4,500 square miles have already been affected.

Nicole Gulatz and Gene Szudrowitz, both with national disaster experience, prepared for an extended deployment. The National Guard has also been called in for help.

"It's organized chaos because you come in and it's like going to a fire with the fire department. You don't know what you have until you get there and you just start working on it," said Szudrowitz.

"I'll be making sure that we are getting the right materials for the people in need," said Gulatz.

The volunteers expect to be assisting in Colorado for at least three weeks.
