MILWAUKEE COUNTY (WITI) -- DELAYED! The Milwaukee County Board has pushed back a discussion of future options for O'Donnell Park in the hopes of coming up with a compromise -- the Milwaukee Business Journal is reporting.
The board voted 16-0 Thursday, February 5th to send the issue back to committee for further discussion. County supervisors are asking for an audit of the property to help develop ideas for the site.
"This audit I think will allow us to get good numbers so when we have a discussion next time we are not arguing about the numbers," County Supervisor Patricia Jursik said.
"If we're going to look at it, let's look at not only, if we are going to keep it, how we're going to enhance it, but also maybe we're not going to keep it," County Supervisor Steve Taylor said.
What to do with O'Donnell Park has been a topic of debate for the County Board, after the board voted in January to reject Northwestern Mutual's offer to purchase the property.
The debate has revolved around the county's ability to maintain and/or improve the property.
The Milwaukee Business Journal is reporting the latest discussions have focused on two options. One would direct a request for proposals for companies to buy and redevelop the property. The other would repair leaks in the parking structure and form a task force to recommend ways to improve the park space.
