WHITEWATER (WITI) -- Walworth County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a crash with serious injuries around 12:32 p.m. on Monday, April 14th. Two people sustained injuries as a result of the crash.
The crash occurred on Highway 12 and Walworth Avenue in the City of Whitewater in Walworth County.
The initial investigation revealed that a semi-truck with a trailer allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic while attempting a left-hand turn.
Both vehicles had a green light to proceed straight through the intersection. Witnesses at the scene confirmed this incident occurred in this manner.
Officials say the driver of the semi-truck was cited at the scene for failure to yield while making a left turn. He was traveling eastbound on Highway 12 prior to making this turn.
The other driver, who was traveling in a E-350 truck was headed westbound on Highway 12 prior to the crash. The passenger in this vehicle was a 33-year-old Milwaukee man.
The driver of the semi-truck sustained no apparent injuries and was not transported from the scene. The operator of the E-3580 truck sustained serious chest injuries and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
The 33-year-old Milwaukee man, who was the passenger in the E-350 truck, sustained severe lower leg injuries as well as chest injuries. He was also transported to an area hospital.
Their conditions are unknown at this time.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Crash Investigation Unit and Truck Inspector were summoned. Additionally, members of the city of Whitewater PD, and Wisconsin State Patrol and Whitewater Fire and Rescue members assisted this agency on scene.
The road was shut down for about three hours during this investigation.
