Christmas Fantasy House opens to public
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It's the perfect event for those who love Christmas and hate cancer.
"Cancer is the great equalizer it affects every one of us and we all want to end cancer, so this is your opportunity to do it in a very fun, positive way," said Christmas Fantasy House volunteer Cathy Scholl.
The 2013 Christmas Fantasy House has opened its doors for the season.
Each room has a different theme embracing the holiday season, while honoring those impacted by cancer.
"We thought wow let's do a 1942 war theme where we're talking about fighting for our country, which is such a great parallel between that and those who fight everyday against cancer," said Design Assistant Kristy Casey.
All of the proceeds of the event are donated to the American Cancer Society.
In the past 21 years of the Christmas Fantasy House it's raised $2 million, helping with programming for cancer patients and research to find a cure for this terrible disease.
"The funding has helped tremendously, more and more people are actually surviving from cancer. Two out of three people who are diagnosed actually become survivors," said American Cancer Society Spokesperson Debra Davis.
Visitors can also leave a memento of a loved one whose life has been afflicted with cancer.
"Downstairs we also have the Tribute Tree where we have special handmade ornaments that can be purchased in memory or in honor of someone who had cancer or is a cancer survivor or caregiver," said Scholl.
Touching lives with a little Christmas spirit.
The Christmas Fantasy House runs through November 10th.
Tickets are $20 at the door for adults and children 12 and under are free.
