"That's not good!" After attack, man shows up at gas station with tire iron lodged in his head!

NEW ZEALAND (WITI) -- Store owners at a New Zealand gas station were shocked when a man walked into the store with a metal rod lodged in his head!

23-year-old Adam Armitage, with blood streaming down his face, calmly asked the cashier to use his phone so that he could call for help -- telling gas station employees he was attacked.

Armitage was eventually airlifted to the hospital. He's listed in serious condition.

"It was really like 'is this a TV show? Is this guy for real?' It looked like a Halloween stunt where people wear those Halloween costumes over their heads, but it was pretty real when he turned around and the blood was coming down the side of his head. I don't even know if he realized that he wsa so hurt, but as you can see, he was pretty nasty," gas station owner Lester Gray said.

"He just walked in and he's got the tire iron in his head and I was just like, 'is that a drumstick in your head?' and he was like, 'no it's a tire iron' and I was just like, 'aw, that's not good!' The sharp part of the tire iron was in his temple. He's real lucky that it didn't go any deeper. All my other mates -- they were freaking out. I stayed reasonably calm. They don't really like that gory sort of stuff. He was pretty calm. He's like -- he wasn't freaking out or anything, so he obviously knew what had gone wrong, and he said he knew his first aid and that, so he didn't try and rip it out or anything," Dylan Shea said.

3News in New Zealand reports police are making progress in their investigation. It is unclear whether anyone has been arrested.
