Sunday morning shooting latest in series of violent incidents

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It was a violent weekend in Milwaukee, with police investigating a series of shootings -- the most recent having occurred Sunday morning, August 4th near 27th and Locust. On Saturday night, near 13th and Maple, a 23-year-old man was shot and killed, and a 20-year-old man was injured.

This comes after police responded to at least six shootings in less than five hours on Friday, August 2nd.

In all, there were 10 victims, and one did not survive.

"I heard like, three gunshots. It woke me up," Sherman Winslow said.

Winslow witnessed Sunday morning's shooting.

"I was standing right there listening to my church music and all of a sudden the red car pulls up at the light -- then all of a sudden when the light changes, a red car pulled off and a minivan came past and pop, pop," Winslow said.

Winslow says a driver ended up crashing into a light pole -- and Winslow tried to help.

"I got on my girl's phone and called police. I hope this young man is alright. Me and my other neighbor tried to keep talking -- everyone is telling him, hold on. He was shot in his left ear, his chest, and somewhere else -- and his right arm looked like a hole," Winslow said.

Police arrived on the scene to gather evidence and investigate a motive.

"It don't feel safe no more. We afraid to walk up and down the streets. I'm in the house early. The police are trying to do their job, but the crime is more out here than police are. I wish something would change. If it don't I'm getting up out of here," Winslow said.

Police have not yet released the victim's name in this latest shooting, but say he is expected to survive.

No one is in custody.
