KENOSHA CO. (WITI) -- 28-year-old Nicholas Hartlein of Sturtevant was arrested Monday, January 28th for operating a motor vehicle under the influence with a child in the vehicle.
At approximately 7:14 p.m. a state trooper stopped to assist Hartlein, who was in a pulled over vehicle on West Frontage Rd., just north of STH 158. Upon making contact with Hartlein, the trooper detected an odor of intoxicants.
Following field sobriety tests, Hartlein was taken into custody for operating while intoxicated. Officials say there was a one week old child in the vehicle.
Police say following the arrest Hartlein became combative in the trooper's car. Officials say Hartlein began banging his head -- which resulted in several lacerations that required stitches. Police say Hartlein also broke his foot while kicking the troopers door.
Hartlein was transported to St. Catherine's for medical treatment and a legal blood draw.
Hartlein was held at the Kenosha County Jail on charges of operating while intoxicated, first offense, with a child under the age of sixteen in the vehicle.
The child was turned over to his mother who was in the vehicle and had not been drinking.
