MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Approximately 330 law enforcement agencies across the state will be out in force to combat drunken driving during the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign beginning Friday, August 16, through Labor Day, September 2.
"Although drunken driving is entirely preventable, it continues to devastate individuals, families and whole communities," says State Patrol Major Sandra Huxtable. "Last year, alcohol-related crashes killed 223 people in Wisconsin and injured nearly 3,000. Many of the dead and injured were innocent victims of drunken drivers."
To help prevent drivers from getting behind the wheel when they're impaired, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation offers a free "Zero In Wisconsin Drive Sober" mobile app. This app includes a find-a-ride feature that uses a smart phone's GPS system to locate alternative transportation, a blood alcohol estimator and designated driver selector. The Drive Sober app can be downloaded by visiting www.zeroinwisconsin.gov.
