MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Lisa Isaac appeared in a Milwaukee County courtroom on Tuesday afternoon, January 22nd for a competency hearing.
Isaac is charged with felony counts of kidnapping and child abduction. This, for allegedly abducting a child from Starms Early Childhood Center on Thursday, May 24, 2012.
Police say Isaac entered the school and claimed that she was asked by the child’s mother to pick up the four-year-old girl. The woman then left with the child.
Isaac and the child were found at 25th & North, where the child’s mother confronted the suspect and was able to get her child back. Milwaukee police then arrived and arrested the suspect. The child was not harmed.
According to the criminal complaint, Isaac admitted to taking the four-year-old girl from Starms. She had apparently lured the child by telling her, “your mother wanted me to do your hair.” Isaac also said, “she misses her six children that are in the custody of the State of Wisconsin due to (her) mental health issues and inability to provide adequate care for her children.”
In court on Tuesday, a judge approved the state's request for a second competency examination for Isaac. The defense had asked for a cash bail to be set for her, but the judge denied that and Isaac was remanded into the custody of the Sheriff's Office.
Isaac's next court hearing is set for February 21st.
If convicted, Isaac faces up to 40 years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines.
