Roundy's Foundation makes massive food donation
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Roundy's kicked off its "Feeding Families Tour" on Monday, October 7th with a big donation to New Horizon Center. It's the eighth year for the event -- and the sixth time New Horizon Center has gotten a donation -- thousands of pounds of food, loaded in truck after truck.
"It's our way of getting out into the community and involving our stores and getting food into the hands of some of our smaller pantries," said Connie Jones of the Roundy's Foundation.
"Having these resources available to us, really gives us an opportunity to donate other foods to make families feel more whole, to make them feel like they are loved and valued," said Olivia El-Amin of New Horizon Center.
New Horizon Center serves more than 150 families each year. Roundy's hopes to make a dent and help fill the need.
"We want me make sure that we help the battle against hunger," said Jones.
"Things that we have naturally, don't come easy for a lot of families, so this is going to make a tremendous difference in their lives," said El-Amin.
Roundy's Foundation will make stops in 13 cities in the next five days. It will help 60 food pantries in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
