RACINE (WITI) -- 50-year-old Rodney Gunn of Racine faces one count of attempted first degree intentional homicide (repeater) use of a dangerous weapon in a stabbing incident that occurred on January 20th.
Gunn is accused of stabbing Joseph Kostka.
A criminal complaint in the case indicates Gunn told officials "It was self-defense. He was in my house and I had to defend myself."
The criminal complaint states Gunn told officials Kostka kicked in his door and came into his house. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Gunn on top of Kostka, and Gunn told officials "Yeah, I stabbed him, three times."
According to the criminal complaint, police interviewed another resident of the home where police responded, who said Gunn is very hot-tempered and "scary." This individual told officials Gunn has hurt people in the past and if he has to, he will hurt someone. This individual reportedly witnessed the stabbing incident.
When interviewed at the hospital, the criminal complaint indicates Kostka told officials Gunn had been starting problems with him for awhile, and would go into his basement and turn Kostka's hot water off and lock the basement door. Kostka told officials he had finally had enough when he attacked Gunn, and was dragged into Gunn's apartment, when Gunn stabbed him.
If convicted, Gunn faces up to 60 years in prison.
