MILWAUKEE (WITI) – Potawatomi Bingo Casino is celebrating 20 years of Miracles in 2013 as its signature charitable program, Miracle on Canal Street, marks this milestone anniversary. The campaign kicked off Thursday, August 1st, with an event highlighted by the announcement of its 10 signature children’s charities, chosen by the program’s media partners. At least 10 more charities will be chosen randomly December13th.
Miracle on Canal Street’s mission is to improve the quality of life for children in southeastern Wisconsin. Through funds raised primarily from special bingo games and the generosity of Potawatomi Bingo Casino guests, the program focuses the joy of holiday giving onto those who are the hope for the future. Since its inception in 1994, the program has raised more than $12.5 million for hundreds of area children’s charities.
“This astonishing program has only gotten bigger and better during its 20 years of existence,” said Melanie Martin, Bingo Director at Potawatomi Bingo Casino. “We look forward to celebrating two decades of helping area children in 2013 with a lot of fun, excitement, tears of joy and a few surprises. The charities announced today do spectacular work and provide much needed services to children and families in the area.”

One of those charities, Hunger Task Force, is no stranger to Miracle on Canal Street. That organization received funding the first year of the program.
“Since the beginning, Potawatomi Bingo Casino and its guests have given so much to our organization and many others throughout the area. We’re thankful to be involved once again,” said Sherrie Tussler, Executive Director of Hunger Task Force. “It doesn’t seem like 20 years have gone by since Hunger Task Force was one of 18 charities to receive about $5,000 for participating in that first Miracle on Canal Street program.”
