16-year-old shot and killed Sunday
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say a 16-year-old was shot and killed Sunday afternoon, August 25th in the 7600 block of W. Mill Road. Police identify the victim as Keenan Payne.
It happened Sunday around 2:00 p.m.
Neighbors say they heard at least one gunshot, and now, police are in the process of determining why it happened and who pulled the trigger.
Marqui Cotton told FOX6 News he is a friend of the victim, who was murdered Sunday in an area behind a daycare.
"It's hard. He was like my brother because we meet everyday. It's just crazy how you can be there one day and be gone the next," Cotton told FOX6 News.
A playground and field were blocked off by law enforcement officials as neighbors watched the investigation unfold.
Some in the area told FOX6 News they believe the shooting was the result of a robbery attempt -- but police have not yet confirmed that information.
Police have not yet released the name of the victim, nor have they announced whether anyone is in custody.
