WAUPUN -- Officials say an early morning assault on Christmas Eve at the Waupun Correctional Institute lead to a five-hour lockdown of one cell block. A 47-year-old officer with 11 years of service was injured int he attack.
The officer has received medical treatment and has returned to duty, according to officials.
Prison officials locked down the block where the altercation occurred while they, and the Dodge County Sheriff's Department, investigated.
Officials say inmate Abdishakur Muddey attacked an officer who was performing his duties. Muddey is serving a 10-year sentence for second degree homicide and was placed in segregation.
Officials say additional charges against Muddey are pending.

No one else was involved in the incident and all inmates and staff are safe and the institute is operating normally, Pollard said.
