SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- 40-year-old Robert Seidler Jr. of Sheboygan has been charged in connection with the burglary of the MSM Mini-Mart on August 21st.
Seidler faces the following charges:
The burglary occurred at the MSM Mini-Mart 1, located on 790 Wolf Road.
Surveillance video showed a male subject entering the Mini-Mart in black clothes. The video shows the man walk up near the door, and then out into the parking lot near the gas pumps on the west side.
The video shows the man then walk to the back door.
The man was walking northbound through a parking lot toward Wolf Road, and at that point, a squad car drove past. The man then apparently walked out into the roadway and looked both ways, in an attempt to determine whether the squad car would return.
The man is then seen walking through the parking lot, removing a hammer from underneath his jacket.
The man then again walked through the parking lot toward Random Lake Road to determine no one was around.
Then, the video shows the man return to the building and walk out of view of the cameras.
The store's internal surveillance cameras showed the man attempting to pry the door off the store with a claw hammer. The entire door was shaking, and this set off the security alarm.
The man was then seen leaving the area, headed southbound.
That's when a deputy showed up at the store and noticed pry marks. There was damage to the door, valued at $5.
On August 26th, officials followed up on this case, as well as three overnight burglaries that occurred in the Village of Random Lake. It was then that an anonymous tip led authorities to believe that the suspect's name was Robert, and that he lived in Random Lake.
Seidler was eventually positively identified by a woman living at his mother's home, who said she has known Seidler for three years.
Officials interviewed Seidler's sister, who told officials she had asked her brother if he was responsible for the MSM Mini-Mart burglary, after she spotted a Crime Stoppers wanted poster -- and Seidler reportedly said "no," according to the criminal complaint.
Seidler's sister told officials her brother has a drug problem, and has used a variety of drugs, according to the criminal complaint.
The criminal complaint in the case says a claw hammer was recovered from Seidler's mother's apartment.
When officials spoke with Seidler, he told them he did not recall doing anything "to be honest." Seidler also denied using drugs. The criminal complaint says Seidler told officials "he definitely would not do something stupid like that if he was sober" -- according to the criminal complaint.
