Theft at the Saukville YMCA
SAUKVILLE (WITI) -- Saukville Police are investigating a theft at the Feith YMCA. It happened while a dad was in the pool with his son, for a session of water therapy.
Gavin Cerney is three years old. He has what his dad Ryan calls "undiagnosed special needs" because after years of therapy and surgery, they still aren't sure what's wrong.
One of Gavin's four therapy sessions every day, is in the water at the Y. On Wednesday, Ryan left his things, as he always does, in a handicapped stall in the Family Locker Room. But when he returned, he noticed things weren't right.
Cerney said, "Things were out of place, like he has braces and stuff in there and it was all kinda shifted around, I was like this doesn’t look right.” Everything from credit cards to his social security card were all taken out of his wallet and his cell phone was gone.
The staff at the Y immediately called police and Ryan started cancelling his cards.
Someone on the phone with his credit card company noticed something. Ryan said, “They’re like did you use this charge at Wal-Mart 45 minutes ago? I’m like no, it’s like hey, they’re at Wal-Mart. This happened 45 minutes ago you might want to get somebody over there.”
Police weren't able to make an arrest on the spot, but they did identify the woman through security cameras. Unfortunately, she was already able to rack up about a hundred dollars on Ryan's debit card. He was devastated, "To have this happen, we don’t have a lot of money. I was crushed."
But the next day, Ryan was able to get his items back and he is optimistic he will get the money returned to his account as well. As for the woman, Saukville Police are investigating if she was involved in other similar crimes.
