Bar owner shuts down illegal gambling operation
MUSKEGO (WITI) -- A raffle game at a tavern in Muskego has been voluntarily shut down after pressure from law enforcement and the legal system.
Patrons of Marx Pioneer Inn say they paid $2 to get a number in "The Joker Game." If that number was drawn, the person got a chance to select a card from a deck of 53 playing cards -- Joker included. If the Joker was drawn, they patron won the pot of cash.
It is unclear how long the game had been going on, but Muskego Police received an anonymous letter on Tuesday, August 6th informing them of the lottery. A similar letter was sent to the state.
Law enforcement says the business did not have the proper licensing to run such an operation, and they wouldn't have qualified for it in the first place.
The owner shut the game down and police seized all the cash taken in from the game -- a total of $46,266.
Police say the case will be handed over to the District Attorney's Office. It is not clear when, or if, charges will be filed.
