WEST LAKE CITY, Utah -- A seven-year-old boy is being hailed a hero for saving a toddler's life. The toddler fell into a swimming pool on Thursday, August 4th, and there was no one else around to help him.
Seven-year-old Cesar Galeana knew exactly what to do.
Galeana was on his way to play video games with his cousin when it happened.
"I heard a splash," Galeana said.
A two-year-old boy had wandered away from his family while they unloaded groceries from the car. The boy ended up at a gate -- the entrance to the pool. The gate is always locked, and can only be opened with a card, but the boy was smart enough to push open the bottom of the gate and slip through the crack.
After this incident, management at the pool took a look at surveillance video, which showed the two-year-old playing around by the pool by himself for 10 minutes until he wandered too far -- into the water.
"He was like that for a long time, so I ran over there," Galeana said.
Galeana was too big to go through the gate, so he ran through the lobby and through the bathroom pool entrance.
"I lifted him like this. I felt like I was holding a rock. Then I ran to the office," Galeana said.
EMTs soon arrived, and thanks to Galeana, the two-year-old is expected to fully recover.
