Wisconsin Ave. and Van Buren St.
MILWAUKEE -- Water gushed from the roadway at Wisconsin and Van Buren in downtown Milwaukee on Wednesday afternoon, November 18th. It was quite the site. But that was not a water main break.
Officials with the Department Public Works (DPW) said a crew was flushing a water main and had barricades around an air vent near that main. Apparently a car crashed through those barricades and hit the air vent, causing the vent to come open.
The DPW didn’t know the crash happened before the crew started flushing the water main. So when it did flush the main, water came out the air vent and shot into the air.
The water has since been shut off -- and the air vent was closed.
No injuries were reported -- and there is no damage to infrastructure.
