Gunshots ring out on city's south side, strike home near S. 33rd & Madison: "This ruined everything"

MILWAUKEE -- Too close for comfort. Gunshots ring out on Milwaukee's south side, hitting a home and it's all captured on surveillance. A mother and daughter say they are shaken by what happened.

Bullets whizzed by their home near S. 33rd and Madison around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night, June 7th. They tell FOX6 News the violence has changed their everyday routines.

"This one thing ruined everything. My kid should not experience that. None of us should," said Dawn Gonzalez, neighbor.

Outside of the Gonzalez home, bullets sprayed the backyard.

"I hurried up and ran to my kitchen window, there was about eight more gunshots that went off," said Gonzalez.

A neighbor's surveillance captured the terrifying moments. Three men run from an SUV looking for someone in the alleyway.

Armed with guns, they fire multiple shots.

"I could literally see the fire coming out of the gun," said Gonzalez.

Luckily, no one was hit but bullets pierced a neighbor's home.

Gonzalez and her 8-year-old daughter, Mercedes, called 911 and took cover.

"I was shaking a lot," said Mercedes Gonzalez.

"It's sad. It's very sad," said Gonzalez.

"I started to cry a little bit," said Mercedes.

Dawn Gonzalez is now forced to talk to her child about what took place.

"I had to explain to her there are bad people out there. It's nothing we did," said Gonzalez.

"I just think it's horrible what this world is turning to," said Mercedes.

An 8-year-old who just days ago, was only concerned with having fun is now focused on staying safe.

"Everyone in the world, just don't do stuff that you do. You're hurting other people that didn't do anything to you," said Mercedes.

Police tell us no one is in custody. They are investigating what led up to the shooting.

Those in the neighborhood are hoping things can get back to normal soon.
