Friends remember woman struck by car in Greendale

GREENDALE -- Friends are remembering the life of a Greendale woman. 82-year-old Beatrice Salo was crossing Grange Ave. at 68th St. Monday night, December 17th when she was hit by a delivery driver.

Police have reviewed surveillance video of the intersection. They say the 21-year-old driver delivering for Jimmy John's had the green light and didn't see Salo in the cross walk around 8 p.m. Monday night. Officials also say Salo was wearing dark clothing.

Investigators say the driver of the car is cooperative and distraught over the incident.

Tuesday, Salo's friends at the Berkshire Senior Living Complex did not want to go on camera. However, they described Salo as social and very active in her church -- attending multiple Bible studies each week.

The Berkshire apartments open in April 2012. So the staff and neighbors there didn't know Salo that well. But they say what stood out to them most was how much she loved her church.
