SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- Sheboygan firefighters were called to a home on the city's south side on Monday, January 28th.
The fire broke out shortly before 5p.m. near 11th and Oakland Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters found the first floor of the home fully engulfed with thick black smoke. Shortly thereafter, the windows failed and the area ignited into heavy flames.
Officials say there were no people inside the structure at the time of fire, however, two pet dogs were left in the home.
Following a quick and coordinated fire attack officials were able to bring the fire under control and search the residence for the dogs.
Firefighters quickly located the pets and removed them from the home. Officials attempted to resuscitate the dogs, but they succumb to the effects of the exposure to the smoke and heat of the fire.
The interior of the home was heavily damaged from smoke, heat and flames. The damage to the home and contents is being estimated at $75,000.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
