MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- 48-year-old Edwood Hastings pleaded not guilty on Monday, August 26th and waived his preliminary hearing. Hastings is accused in a hit-and-run crash that left Andrea Barringer dead on the city's East Side.
Hastings of Milwaukee faces a criminal charge of hit-and-run resulting in death in connection with the crash that occurred on August 11th.
According to the four-page criminal complaint, Hastings hit and killed Barringer as she was crossing the street at Farwell and Irving. He then allegedly fled from the scene.
The complaint indicates on Monday, August 12th, Hastings walked in to the Municipal Court building in Milwaukee and turned himself in — indicating “he was the person driving the tan SUV that had hit someone last night on N. Farwell Avenue.” He told the officer who he turned himself in to that “he briefly stopped but freaked out and drove home.” He apparently “wanted to see his family before he turned himself in.”
If convicted, Hastings faces up to 25 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.
