Crash investigation leads police to homicide scene

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Officers working on the scene of a car crash late Thursday afternoon, October 10th found something that led them to, what they believe, is the scene of a murder.

Police discovered the body of an 84-year-old man inside a home near Hadley St. between 57th and 58th St.

"It's a shock because, like I said, he seemed like such a nice man, old guy, lived in the house by himself, I believe. I just introduced him to my wife," said neighbor Ric Villegas. "He was a nice man. He kept to himself, you know, said hi to everybody when they walked by."

Ariana Carter saw authorities outside the home she frequently walks past on her way to the store. She says it won't be the same without the man around.

"He seemed like a nice man. He was just out there yesterday picking up trash in his yard," said Carter.

Lt. Justin Carloni of the Milwaukee Police Department says the investigation of a car accident a few blocks away led officers to the home.

"Officers were sent here to, at 58th St. to do a welfare check. Upon making entry, we discovered the 84-year-old victim deceased at the scene," said Lt. Carloni. "Right now we're investigating a homicide."

Residents in the neighborhood are concerned and looking for change.

"I'm actually trying to get off this block because it's been a lot of bad stuff happening this way," said Tiffany Wilder.

Police are still in the process of notifying the victim's family. They say they will be talking with people in the area to try to figure out what happened in this mysterious case.
