Trucker logs over 2 million miles during 30-year career
FRANKLIN (WITI) -- Brian Busch has spent more than 30 years on the job, and has logged more than two million miles as a trucker -- but that's not the most impressive part of this story!
Busch has been in the driver's seat for the past 30 years! He started at Con-way Freight in 1983.
"I've worked on the dock, I worked in the city, I've worked on line haul at night. I've tried all of it," Busch said.
Rain or shine, Busch hits the road, and in three decades, he has logged more than two million miles.
"I've done that all my life. It's all I've ever done," Busch said.
Now, Busch is getting ready to retire, and his company is saying "congratulations" -- not only for the years he has spent on the road, but for the way he has done it.
"He has managed to do this 30 plus years without a single accident or injury," John McCutcheon with Con-way Freight said.
Busch has a spotless driving record.
"I just come in and do my job, that's it. I've been fortunate not to run into anything," Busch said.
"Those behaviors and those habits really bode well for what we're trying to achieve as an organization," Tom Clark with Con-way Freight said.
It is a feat that is a first for the company, and one that is setting a standard for the thousands of employees.
"He's an icon and someone we'd like to replicate through 21,000 people," Clark said.
Busch says safety is easy to accomplish, and says he has a simple secret to his success.
"Just paying attention and watching out for everybody around you is what I've done and it seemed to work," Busch said.
Busch has been with Con-way since the day the company started, and was a part of the company when it had just four employees.
