Threat investigated at Waukesha North H.S.
WAUKESHA -- Classes ran as scheduled at Waukesha North High School on Tuesday, December 18th despite a heightened police presence. But then, phone calls poured in about a threat directed at a high school that would take place Friday.
"Someone was going to shoot a school here, or have a shooting here at a school in Waukesha," said Sgt. Jerry Habarnek of the Waukesha Police Department.
Sgt. Habarnek says police began interviewing students and traced it all back to an online post that spread through Waukesha -- and throughout the world.
"It was put on Facebook and they told two friends and then throughout social networking it went from school to school," said Habarnek.
Sgt. Habarnek says it was a rumor started from a student who overheard another student threatening Waukesha North High School. It went viral in a matter of minutes.
Friday's school day will go on as planned. But to make sure there are no problems, law enforcement says it will be ready.
Police reassure everyone to not panic. But if you hear any threats directed at a school to report them immediately.
Police have not identified who they believe started the rumors. The case is under investigation.
