Cha-ching! Nice weather brings folks out for volunteer fire departments fundrai
CEDARBURG (WITI) -- It's an opportunity to shop AND show support! Cedarburg's "Maxwell Street Days" event is both a flea market and a fundraiser!
Sunday, May 25th was Amy Ungewitter's first time at the event that takes place four times each year (May 25th, July 13th, August 31st and October 5th -- rain or shine!)
Over 600 vendors were on hand for the event -- with a variety of antiques, collectibles, crafts, fine arts, pottery, fresh produce, seasonal items, sports memorabilia, architectural/industrial items, flea market items and more!
"Definitely great finds. Definitely great prices. There`s a lot to see, a lot to do. Plenty of places to shop. I`m gonna probably be here for a couple hours -- trying to get through everything!" Ungewitter said.
The event serves to support Cedarburg's volunteer fire department. It is the department's major fundraiser.
The event has been a tradition of the volunteer fire department since 1966.
"All of our firefighters are professional. They receive the same training that a paid department would receive, but we receive no compensation," Fire Chief Jeff Vahsholtz said.
Vahsholtz says Cedarburg's bravest have a big presence at the event -- since the department depends on money raised to help cover costs.
"Our fire engines, our ambulances, all our turn-out gear, our expensive items are all capital equipment -- where we can use the monies that we raise up here during our fundraising to pay for those and keep all of that off the tax roll," Vahsholtz said.
With the wonderful weather we saw on Sunday -- vendors said the money was making its way to Maxwell Street Days -- and it will soon make a difference.
